Shillong,June 15: Police said the death of Hajong couple appears to be suicide, but the actual cause will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.
The bodies of the couple were found in a shed at Lumsohphoh, Laitumkhrah (in picture).
They have been identified as Pronam Hajong (22) of Balat, South West Khasi Hills (SWKH) and Semanto Hajong (21) of Ranikor SWKH
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Syiem said the police received information at 7 am on Sunday, June 14, that two bodies were found inside a shed at Lumsohphoh beside the Shillong-Jowai road and that these bodies were found with rope tied to the necks.
“Immediately officers and staff from Laitumkhrah Police Station rushed to the place of occurrence and cordoned the area, forensic team were called, senior police from the district also reached the place of occurrence and examined the place of occurrence,” he said.
According to the SP, no external injuries were found. “No injuries were found on the bodies, the forensic team was there and examined all possibilities whether it was suicide or otherwise, inquest conducted has indicated all indications of suicide however the same will be confirmed after post mortem is done and received.”
An unnatural death case has been registered at Laitumkhrah Police Station.
“We have registered an unnatural death case on the matter in Laitumkhrah Police Station. So once the post mortem report is received and confirm suicide or otherwise, accordingly district police will proceed with investigation. Let’s hope by a week’s time, we will get the report,” Syiem said.
When asked how suicide is possible in a sitting position,the SP termed it as “partial suicide” based on initial findings.
There are all indications of suicide and there are no injuries on the bodies, so this is the circumstance that we have ascertained as of now, but that will be confirmed when we receive the post mortem report.”
Regarding the background of the deceased, Syiem said, “The couple was in a relationship, both work in the same locality, and we are yet to ascertain what made them take this drastic step. There is nothing as such that parents opposed both of them being from the same community and same district, there is no opposition from the parents, we are investigating as to why they took this drastic step.”
