Preparatory work on for Captain Williamson Sangma State University

Shillong, Feb 21: The Captain Williamson Sangma State University will be made functional by the government.
The plan was to make the state University functional by 2024.
Education Minister Rakkam Sangma told the Assembly on Wednesday that the state government has started the preparatory work in this regard.
In reply to a question by Brightstarwell Marbaniang (VPP), Rakkam said the government is in the process of sanctioning 100 additional posts of faculty in Tura and 6 for Shillong campus.
The financial implication for this is Rs 45. 7 crore annually and the total cost of construction of infrastructure for the university is Rs 16.96 crore.
He said the process to appoint the vice chancellor of the state university is almost at the final stage.
According to Rakkam, in view of the upcoming general elections, if the state cannot recruit all faculty, the state university will have to be made functional in 2025.
The construction of administrative block and academic block and construction of boys and girls hostel have been completed
Till date, 58 posts have been sanctioned including vice chancellor and registrar.   Internal road and water supply have also been sanctioned.
“The Board of Governors has been constituted. The first Board of Governor meeting was held on January 14, 2022 chaired by the Education Minister,” he said.
