Shillong, Nov 20: The state government has earmarked Rs 3 crore for holding Megong and Cherry Blossom festivals.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed this after inaugurating Megong festival in Babadam, West Garo Hills
When asked why the government should hold festivals amid financial crunch, plight of teachers due to non-payment of salary and Covid, the chief minister justified holding the festivals saying that the government focuses on various sectors, including tourism for better outcome.
“The state economy and livelihood of people depend on many sectors. There are a lot of things happening in education, tourism , agriculture and infrastructure departments and hence budget is allocated for the same . If we stop construction of roads, the road sector will suffer and similar is the case with other departments”, Conrad told reporters.
