Sankardev College holds events on plantation, communicative English

Shillong, Aug 27: The Botanique Club, Department of Botany, Sankardev College, Shillong organised an awareness programme on “Basic Techniques of Plantation cum Hands – on Training” on April 25  at the College premises.

The programme was sponsored by the Directorate of School Education and Literacy – SAMAGRA SHIKSHA ABHIYAN, Education Department, Government f Meghalaya.

During the inaugural programme, M Umdor, Head of the Botany Department delivered the welcome address followed by the inaugural speech from Dr Eureka F P Lyngdoh, Principal of the College. The resource person  Donbor Sing R. Sohliya, Horticulture Development Officer (Vegetables and Floriculture), Fruit Garden, government of Meghalaya spoke on basic techniques of plantation of indoor plants, their advantages and methods of propagation. This was followed by practical demonstration cum training on setting up of gardening/planting/potting/re-potting assisted by Ranbir Kumar Rai and Campbell Kharbithai from the Horticulture Department. The programme saw the participation of students and teachers from Secondary and Higher Schools-Shishu Mandir school , Dainty Buds school, Pine View Academy, St John Bosco School, Malki Presbyterian school, Raid Laban school, Lawsohtun Presbyterian school, Laban Bengalee Boys Higher Secondary school, Sankardev College Higher Secondary Section, degree students of Sankardev College along with the members of Botanique Club, Department of Botany. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from  H.L Mawlong and chaired by E. Kyndiah both from the Department of Botany.

The resource persons were Adnan Khan, Former Faculty, Chiang Mai University, Thailand & Guest Faculty Guangxi University, China and Prof. T.K Bamon, Vice Chancellor, Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong.
Altogether, college teachers from 20 colleges  participated in the workshop which was inaugurated by Dr Eureka F P Lyngdoh, Principal, Sankardev College.
