Shillong, April 18: The schools in West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills will remain closed for the next three days from April 19 till 21 due to the heatwave.
This was announced by Education Minister Rakkam Sangma.
Speaking to reporters here, Sangma said the decision was following a review of the heat condition by the district administrations.
Education Secretary RM Kurbah said while the schools will be closed from April 19 to 21 in West Garo Hills, assessment will be made by the deputy commissioners of other districts before taking decision.
Later, in their orders, the district administrations of West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills declared that all primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary schools will remain closed during the day from April 19 to April 21 to ensure safety and well-being of students, teachers and staff and as a precautionary measure to the risk of heat stroke, dehydration and other related illness.
However, evening/night schools will remain functional.
