Second FIR against NPP member for distorting religious song

Shillong, Feb 23: A second FIR has been filed against the NPP’s Williamnagar unit general secretary Georgeman Marak for hurting religious sentiments.

The FIR was filed by a member of Tura Baptist Church, John Leslee Sangma, on Wednesday.
Marak and five others have made a video where the name of Jesus has been replaced with NPP and Conrad Sangma “to glorify the party and the party leader”.

This amounts to “insult to the religious sentiments of the people and provoked the Christians and a serious attempt to create enmity and hatred among the people”, a statement from Tennydard Marak, an activist from Williamnagar, said.

“The aforesaid persons have used the video in order to gain political advantage/mileage during the ensuing Meghalaya Assembly Election which is clear violation of the norms of election campaign and hence it attracts punishment under proper sections of law. It is my humble request to kindly initiate strict immediate necessary appropriate action and stop such unlawful activities of the National People’s Party and oblige,” he added.

The FIR sought action against Georgeman and fiveothers under Section 295A.
