State may start city ropeway project in November

Shillong, April 19: The state government is likely to start the Shillong peak ropeway project in November.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday after his recent meeting with the department officials, Tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh said the project starts from the terminal point at Madan Laban towards Lumparing and to the view point of Shillong peak.

“We will have 12 cables initially and the engineering will be done as per European standards. The government will float tenders in the month of May and likely the work will start by November of this year”, he said.

Mawkasiang Orchid resort

The minister, who visited the Orchid Resort, Mawkasiang, said a few areas need further enhancement and along with the officials of the tourism department, the government will be initiating a few major interventions.

Shillong-Sohra tourism circuitĀ 

Lyngdoh said the department of tourism along with Asian Development Bank will be initiating new projects and to begin with Shillong and Sohra circuits will each get funding of Rs 70 crore and these projects have been initiated.
