State yet to decide on ceasefire with HNLC

Shillong, April 1: The state government is yet to decide on ceasefire with HNLC as the talks with the outfit are at a preparatory stage.

To a question on the ceasefire, chief minister Conrad Sangma said, “It is a process, it is difficult to say right now so the process will continue. We hope that we are able to move things at a faster pace so that is what our objective is right now”.

The chief minister chaired a meeting on Friday  to discuss the peace talks with the HNLC.

The meeting held with the government interlocutor Peter S Dkhar was attended by the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, Chief Secretary RV Suchiang and other officials.

The HNLC has already appointed HNYF president Sadon Blah as its representative to initiate talks with the government.

Sangma said the government is committed to move forward the peace talks with the outfit.

“ We are ensuring that continuous communication is taking place…we are continuously pushing this to reach a logical conclusion,” he said.
