Student bodies lock NEHU VC’s room, gate of university

Shillong, March 6: The North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) and the Khasi Students Union (KSU) have locked the office of NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof PS Shukla in protest against his rejoining.
They also locked the gate of the University.
The action is after Shukla resumed his duties virtually on March 3.
The student bodies wanted immediate removal of Shukla alleging that he is responsible for the crisis in the university.
NEHUTA president Prof Lakhon Kma recently said in fifty plus years of history of NEHU, there is no precedence of resuming duty virtually when one hasn’t rejoined after earned leave that Shukla has been applying for since last three and a half months.
“The NEHUTA finds that such a claim is misplaced and it betrays all procedures and rules of the University, especially in the context of a totally errant VC like Prof. P. S. Shukla, who brought NEHU down to the lowest by his wrongdoings, for which the Inquiry was conducted,” Kma added.
