Shillong, Nov 24: The students and teachers of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) who met the two-member committee constituted by the union ministry of education, said the Vice Chancellor PS Shukla is not acceptable to them.
The members of the panel are Prof.DP Singh, former Chairman of UGC and Prof Dilip Chandra Nath, former Vice-Chancellor of Assam University.
According to the protestors, irrespective of the outcome of the probe, the vice chancellor’s return is untenable and unacceptable to them.
The students under the banner, North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) and Khasi Students’ Union (KSU-NEHU Unit) and teachers under the North Eastern Hill University Teachers’ Association (NEHUTA) and others handed over documents and representations to the committee.
The terms of reference of the committee include controversial appointments, declining university rankings, infrastructural neglect, and non-responsiveness of the VC on various demands.
