Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Meghalaya beats Arunachal to finish second in group

Shillong, Nov 9: Meghalaya finished second in the Plate Group of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22 with a 92-run victory over Arunachal Pradesh in Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh, on Tuesday.

Vidarbha, which finished first in the group, are the only team that Meghalaya lost to in five outings.

Kishan Lyngdoh and guest professional Chirag Khurana had a strong partnership after Arunachal Pradesh won the toss and chose to field.

Lyngdoh scored 82 off 52 deliveries in an innings that included 12 fours and one six over long on. Khurana hit 10 boundaries in his 78 off 48 balls.

“Winning a match always feels great but dominating a win like today’s brings a lot of confidence in the team heading towards next tournament,” said Lyngdoh.

On his laudable performance, Lyngdoh said, “To be honest I was concentrating one ball at a time and I was just trying to find gaps and in the meantime I backed my instincts and fortunately everything went well. The pitch initially was very damp and the ball was keeping very low and stroke playing was not easy at all.”

Meghalaya finished on 194/3 in their 20 overs, one of the highest totals the team has managed in its T20 domestic history.

“Feeling very happy for the team and the state. It wasn’t batting friendly (pitch) but Kishan and I batted extraordinary,” said Khurana.

Arunachal, who lost all of their matches, could not muster much of a challenge in the chase and finished 102/6 in 20 overs.

Meghalaya used nine bowlers in all, with Khurana claiming the best figures of 2/12.
