Three BSF personnel face action for killing truck driver

BSF arrests head constable & two constables

Shillong, May 9: The BSF took action against three of its personnel for killing the truck driver Roning Nongkynrih who was carrying cattle on May 5 night.

The incident took place at Mawshun under Pynursla, East Khasi Hills.

The BSF IG Meghalaya Frontier Pradip Kumar said on Tuesday that the head constable  Moni Singh who shot the alleged cattle smuggler besides the constables Sangel Singh Tudu and Kadam Kishore Baburao,who were on duty were arrested under the BSF Act.

Later, the head constable was suspended.

According to the BSF official, the head constable told the BSF inquiry team that there was no intention to killl anyone and that he shot in self defence as the driver drove his vehicle towards him and there was a fear that it will run over him.

“It is very unfortunate that the incident took place”, the IG regretted, adding that a court of inquiry was ordered immediately after the incident.

The official said the BSF is ready to co-operate with the police for the investigation.

The BSF IG cited the reason for carrying out mobile patrolling in the area and said that the BSF personnel were deployed to check cattle smuggling following the recovery of 70 cattle from West Jaintia Hills and the arrest of two persons on May 4.

The BSF IG said the truck which the victim was driving had cattle.

Torching of BSF shed 

The IG said the BSF lodged a complaint with the police after some miscreants torched a small shed belonging to the BSF at Borhill on Monday night. The goons also pelted stones, the official added.
