Shillong, July 7: Police arrested three sex workers and their clients from the city.
Police said a raid was conducted by the anti-human trafficking unit of East Khasi Hills district on Tuesday night following complaints that the sex workers have been operating at the Barik-Dhankheti road since many people were seen coming in vehicles as clients.
Three sex workers along with three clients were arrested, the East Khasi Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
Nongtnger said a case has been registered with Laitumkhrah police station under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act.
“Henceforth, to prevent this sort of activity in the area apart from booking sex workers, clients apprehended in the area will face legal action under the Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and the Meghalaya Police Act,” Nongtnger said.
