Shillong, July 7: A group of seven pressure groups has sought a special appointment with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Shillong on July 17 to discuss the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state among other issues.
They handed over a letter in this regard to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday.
The NGOs are Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Khasi Students Union (KSU), Garo Students Union (GSU), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF), A’chik Youth Welfare Organisation (AYWO) & Association for Democracy & Empowerment (ADE).
“We request you to make a special appointment with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah so that the prominent pressure groups of the state could get a chance to discuss issues like implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) and some important issues concerning the indigenous people of the state,” the letter said.
HITO demand
The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO), while welcoming the visit of Shah , hoped that he will accord sanctity and honour to Khasi martyr U Tirot Sing Syiem by laying a wreath in his memory.
“This, we believe for certain, will indeed pave way for most fruitful and meaningful discussion,” HITO said.
