Shillong, Feb 3: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has said the intelligence wing of the police is very strong.
“The intelligence wing is very strong and we will make it stronger. We will make sure that the citizens of the state are safe,” Tynsong told reporters on Thursday.
His views were in response to a statement made by the Opposition Chief Whip and AITC legislator from Umroi George B Lyngdoh that militancy is on the rise in the state.
Lyngdoh had also criticised the government for defending the intelligence branch of the police despite its failure to prevent the IED attacks.
“If you say that we failed as far as the home department is concerned, I think they have given the best and the proof is the arrest of the culprits”, he said.
On the arrest of a juvenile, who claimed to be an area commander of the HNLC, for his involvement in the Khyndailad blast, the deputy chief minister said it is the responsibility of the parent to see that young people are not easily misguided by anyone.
“My humble request to each and every parent to take the responsibility to make sure you groom your children well and lead them in the right direction,” he said.
