Tynsong to meet pressure groups on Nov 3
Shillong, Nov 2: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong will meet leaders of the five pressure groups on Thursday as he reiterated that the secretariat “is always open for discussion on issues concerning the state”.
This comes a day after activists of the five pressure groups staged a surprise march to the Secretariat defying Section 144 of the CrPC to meet Tynsong on the nine-point charter of demands that includes implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
They had also expressed that it was a waste of time meeting the home minister Lahkmen Rymbui since he could not give them any assurance on the issues.
“We are here to discuss any issue and I hope we will have constructive discussion with the NGOs,” Tynsong said, adding that he would comment on ILP after the meeting.
The five pressure groups — HYC, HANM, JSM, EJNC and CoRP — are also demanding the immediate relocation of the Harijan Colony from Them Iew Mawlong, review of the MoU signed under the first phase of border talks with Assam, and punishment of the police officials involved in the killing of ex-HNLC leader Cherishstarfield Thangkhiew.
