UDP & HSPDP activate Regional Democratic Alliance post reservation issue

Shillong, May 31: The UDP and the HSPDP have decided to activate the Regional Democratic Alliance (RPA) after a meeting held here on Wednesday.

The decision comes at a time when the parties and pressure groups in Khasi Hills are demanding a review of reservation policy.

Though the RPA was active prior to the Assembly polls in 2018 with seat sharing in some constituencies by both the parties, it remained dormant after the polls.

The parties had contested the 2023 Assembly polls separately.

The presidents of both the UDP and the HSPDP Metbah Lyngdoh and KP Pangniang said the two political parties will again meet to elect the new members of the RDA.

Metbah said though the UDP and the HSPDP had decided not to have a pre-poll alliance during the last 2023 Assembly elections, they had an understanding regarding post-poll alliance.

Metbah said the two political parties will work together and take collective stand on different issues as RDA.

Both the political parties have also reiterated the need to review the reservation policy.

The parties have raised the issue during the meeting of the committee on roster and reservation headed by Law Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.
