Shillong, Sept 23: United Democratic Party president Metbah Lyngdoh has opposed holding of the cow protection rally in Shillong by stating that it will disturb peace and harmony.
His response was regarding the proposed Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra in Shillong on October 2.
“It is not advisable for them to have these kinds of things as unnecessarily it will create a kind of a disturbance among the people,” he told reporters on Monday.
Urging the group to refrain from interfering with other religious beliefs, the UDP leader said, “Let us respect whatever faith you have, religion that you have, you practise your own but don’t try to interfere with others.”
“Here, we also have lots of Hindus, Muslims and different communities, they practise their own and we never disturb them so likewise it has to be the same also that is what we look upto other religions and communities that we have to respect each other as far as our religious practice is concerned,” he said.
