Shillong, April 22: The member of Ri Bhoi border panel, Mayralborn Syiem MLA (UDP) said on Saturday that he will take up the issue of review of first MoU on border with the border committee.
“I will take up the need to review the first border pact with the committee when it meets”, he said on Saturday.
The committee was notified on March 20 but even after one month, no meeting was held though within 45 days of the notification, the committee was to complete the task.
According to Syiem, there is plenty of scope for revisiting the MoU signed between Meghalaya and Assam on the six of the twelve areas of difference shared between the two states.
He said as parliament has to give nod to the border MoU, there is still scope for review.
The need to review the MoU was one of the main agendas in the UDP’s election manifesto. “As one of the constituents of the MDA-2, we also have to focus also on the common minimum programme where all party manifestos will come together so that we can move ahead,” Syiem said.
