UDP not to cause political instability: Metbah
Shillong, Nov 5: The UDP president and Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh has said his party has no interest in causing any political instability in the state.
“The UDP should not be the reason for any kind of instability,” Lyngdoh told reporters on Friday.
His response was to a query if the UDP will claim for one more cabinet berth after winning the Mawphlang bypoll.
“We would like to see that the government is stable and completes its term. Because when instability is being created, the performance of the government and delivery to the people and the state as whole will get affected. Therefore, we assure stability will be maintained till the end of this term,” he said.
‘No match fixing’
The UDP leader rejected the allegation of match fixing between the NPP and the UDP to defeat the Congress in the just concluded bypolls.
“Not at all, we don’t have that kind of understanding. We have our own candidates if we do that we are betraying our candidates, it is not fair to do that,” he said.
When asked if any Congress leader had approached the UDP, Lyngdoh said it is premature to say right now.
