Shillong, June 29: UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh has taken exception to the toppling of UDP-led coalition Executive Committee (EC) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, on Monday.
UDP is also part of the MDA-2 coalition in the council.
The NPP MDC Bajop Pyngrope brought a no-confidence motion against the EC led by Titosstarwell Chyne of the UDP.
With the help of 6 Congress MDCs, the 12 members of NPP managed to topple the UDP-led EC.
The break- up of the 29 member House is UDP (9), NPP (12) Congress (6) HSPDP (1)Latiplang Kharkongor (Independent) .
Bindo Lanong is the nominated MDC from the UDP.
When contacted, Metbah said the no-confidence motion was brought at the eleventh hour and added that there should have been proper discussion before going ahead with the extreme step.
When asked whether this will affect the coalition government, the UDP leader said that he will talk to the Chief Minister regarding the KHADC affairs.
“I will talk to the Chief Minister on the matter as grievances, if any, should have been discussed and addressed and instead, the NC was brought eleventh hour”, he added.
The outgoing CEM Chyne termed it as backstabbing and said he did not see any why his EC was toppled.
New CEM
The Chairman of KHADC, Lamphrang Blah said that former deputy CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem will be elected as the new CEM on Tuesday.
The new alliance in the KHADC will be known as Khasi Hills Democratic Front (KHDF).
