ULFA (I) releases abducted ONGC employee
Guwahati, May 21 (UNI): The banned insurgent outfit ULFA(I) on Friday released the abducted ONGC employee, Ritul Saikia.
According to local media reports, Saikia was released by the outfit at Changsa Basti in Nagaland’s Mon district along the India-Myanmar border.
Three ONGC employees were abducted by ULFA(I) cadres from Romanian work-over rig of ONGC at Lakwa under Sivasagar district on April 21. Earlier, two of the three abductees — Mohini Mohan Gogoi and Alakesh Saikia — were rescued by the security forces.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had appealed to the ULFA (I) chief Paresh Barua on Thursday to release Saikia.
Sarma recently met the family members of Saikia at his residence at Titabor in Jorhat district.
The chief minister assured the family members that his government would take all possible steps to rescue Saikia at the earliest.
