Veteran actor Javed Khan Amrohi passes away
Mumbai, Feb 14 (UNI): Veteran actor Javed Khan Amrohi passed away here on Tuesday. Amrohi reportedly suffered from breathing problems.
Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) confirmed the demise of the senior theatre artiste. In an Instagram post, the association shared some throwback pictures of Amrohi and wrote, “Javed Khan Amrohi ji was an integral part of IPTA Mumbai. Javed Ji has been a member of IPTA since 1972, serving as an actor, director, and general secretary for many years. Even after passing out from FTll, his commitment to theatre was constant. We mourn the passing of a wholesome artist. RIP Javed Khan Amrohi ji.”
Meanwhile, famous actor Akhilendra Mishra, who was Amrohi’s co-star in ‘Lagaan’ wrote in a Facebook post in Hindi, “Humble tribute Javed Khan sir. Best actor, senior artist, active member of IPTA.”
Amrohi is best known for his roles in the Academy Award-nominated film ‘Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India’ (2001), ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ (1994), and ‘Chak De! India’ (2007).
He also worked in TV series such as Mirza Ghalib, directed by Gulzar, and as Karim (the barber) in Nukkad, directed by Saeed Akhtar Mirza in the 1980s. Amrohi was also a member of the acting faculty at Zee TV‘s Zee Institute of Media Arts in Mumbai.
On the work front, he was last seen in movie ‘Sadak 2’ in 2020.
