Veteran Cong leader in Manipur alleges Rs 29-cr scam

Imphal, Oct 3 (NNN): Veteran politician O. Joy has raised a serious allegation of a scam worth Rs 29.22 crore in Manipur. The money, he said, was sanctioned in July this year for projects related to fish feed, phumdis (floating biomass), wetlands and other similar works.

Speaking to the media at the office of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) in Imphal on Friday, Joy said that documents and invoices suggest that a huge amount of the sanctioned fund has been misused in the name of fish farming development. He described the matter as “highly unfortunate” and one that needed immediate attention.

Joy demanded that a House Committee should be set up under the leadership of the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to properly investigate the case. He also said that if the issue is not handled by the state assembly, the investigation may have to be taken up either by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or by a judicial inquiry to find out the truth.

He further informed that he had already submitted a memorandum regarding the matter to several authorities, including the Prime Minister of India, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the Governor of Manipur and top officials of the state. In his memorandum, Joy urged the urgent formation of a House Committee to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
