Villager prevented from speaking during border visit
Shillong, Nov 23: A villager was prevented from speaking on Tuesday during the joint inspection in Ri Bhoi border between Assam and Meghalaya governments under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and Assam cabinet minister Pijus Hazarika.
MLAs from Ri Bhoi and Deputy Commissioner as members of the regional committee besides officers from Assam were also present.
Among other places, they also carried out Inspection at the areas of Lyngkhung where the villager from Hima Nongspung tried to air his opinion (see picture) before the two regional committees but the Assam minister and officers did not allow him to complete his speech and later a police official took him away.
The regional committee of Meghalaya didn’t intervene, sources said.
Sources added that the intention of inspection was to get feedback and public opinion from the residents of the two states living in the border areas.
However, no chance was given to the public to speak about the ground reality, sources added.
This was the last meeting of the regional committee handling Ri Bhoi border.
Prestone told reporters that the report of the committee will be submitted to both the chief ministers.
