Shillong, Aug 26: Police arrested a 24-year-old youth for murdering the elderly woman and her domestic help in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills on Tuesday.
Banphrangkupar Nongbri, who is known to the victims, and a permanent resident of the locality where the elderly woman resides, was arrested by the police on Wednesday from Mairang and he was produced before the court.
Police secured the custody of the accused for two days to gather more evidences and facts.
The elderly woman identified as Phlisis Syiem (79) and her domestic help Maitlynti L Marshillong (25), were found in a pool of blood on Tuesday morning at the former’s residence in Nongstoin.
According to the police, the youth, who is awaiting his BA results and temporarily residing at Nongrim Hills, confessed to the crime and subsequently, blood stained shoes and two mobile phones belong to the victims were recovered.
West Khasi Hills SP, Herbert Lyngdoh said the motive of the crime was robbery as the victim was a wealthy lady living alone with her domestic help.
Rs 64,500 was seized from the accused and the police also recovered a dagger and iron rods used for murdering the women.
