Heard AITC will finance Rs 200 crore and defected MLAs to get Rs 5 crore each: Timothy
Shillong, Dec 10: Deputy Speaker and NPP leader Timothy Shira has said according to rumours, the AITC will finance Rs 200 crore and the MLAs who joined will get Rs 5 crore each.
Speaking to reporters on Friday on the reason of exodus of Congress MLAs, Shira said, “This is because may be people think that it is a golden chance to join the AITC and make money because they must have heard that AITC is going to finance over Rs 200 crore and that sitting MLAs who joined the AITC will be given Rs 5 crore each. I do not know whether that is true or not but rumour is there”.
Impossible to wipe out Cong
He also said it is impossible to wipe out a grand old party like the Congress.
Shira said that to say that Congress is totally wiped out just because MLAs have merged with the AITC all of a sudden, is not true at all.
“Congress is a very old party which has run the state of Meghalaya for many many years”, he said.
To a question, the deputy speaker said neither the Congress nor AITC will be able to come to power in 2023.
“Say in Khasi Hills, do you think AITC will come or many of them (12 MLAs) will be elected to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. Particularly in Khasi Hills, it will be more difficult than Garo Hills and people will not accept this AITC because the mentality of the Khasi people and Garo people are quite different,” he said.
