Shillong,May 30: For 26-year-old Anukar Das, reading papers and non-fiction books, besides watching documentaries have come in handy in excelling in the UPSC exam.
Das secured 52nd rank in the UPSC final exam,result of which was declared on Monday, creating a distinction as the achievement came after nine years.
In 2013, Isawanda Laloo and Daribha Lyndem from the state had cleared UPSC exam.
Das, a resident of Jail Road, advocated the need to have a culture of competition in Meghalaya to achieve excellence.
Though the spoken English is an advantage compared to other states, what is lacking in the North East, especially Meghalaya, is general knowledge on various subjects and reading habits.
Ankur, who wishes to serve in the North East, said hard work is the key to success.
This was his fifth attempt.
While Ankur”s father is a retired Assistant Commissioner of Central GST based in Shillong, his mother is a home maker.
Ankur did his schooling from St Edmund’s and higher studies from Army School.
His graduation in biotechnology was from Amity University, Noida in 2017.
Ankur’s focus was on agriculture while he was preparing for UPSC.
His first attempt was in 2017 and four more attempts were made till he achieved his success. He got through the prelims, mains and was selected after the interview.
The parents, who are originally from Silchar but residing in Shillong for more than 25 years, said hardwork of their son and thier support helped in achieving the goal.
