Shillong, July 10: Education Minister Rakkam Sangma said the department has decided to issue the advertisement notification on July 14, for recruitment of over MTET passed 1,200 teachers in the government lower primary schools across the state.
“Advertisement for recruiting over 1,200 teachers will be out for all candidates who have cleared the Meghalaya Teachers’ Eligibility Test (MTET) in the state,” he told reporters on Monday.
Rakkam said the department will try to finish the process within two months. “We will even try to finish it within August 15 but we will try to complete the process within the next two months,” he said.
Regarding the18,000 untrained teachers in Meghalaya, the education minister said the the issue was also discussed during the recent meeting with the union minister of human resource development Ramesh Pokriyal in New Delhi. He said that the state is also trying to train the untrained teachers through IGNOU and NIOS.
NCERT syllabus
The state government has decided to soon introduce National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks in school education.
Rakkam said he recently met the chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in New Delhi.
The meeting was also attended by the advisor to the education department Himalaya Shangpliang and officials from the DERT.
He said that the State has requested the CBSE to assist the education department to introduce the NCERT textbooks in the schools across the state.
The decision was also taken after the majority of questions for the CUET examinations are being set from NCERT textbooks.
The education minister said the issue related to the CUET was also taken up with the union minister for human resource development.

He added that CUET centers will be set up in Shillong, Tura and Jowai before the next examination.
“Many of our students have been allotted centres this year in different states of the country. After the intervention of CM, many have been rescheduled and of course some left out students, those will also be rescheduled. We discussed that from the next CUET exams, we will have centers in Shillong,Tura and Jowai,” he said.
