Six cultivators die in road accident, nine sustain injuries
Shillong, June 28: Six people, who are cultivators, were killed and nine others injured after they were hit by a moving truck on Saturday night in East Jaintia Hills, a delayed report said.
According to police sources, on June 26 night, 15 to 20 people had to push a vehicle after its breakdown on the highway at Shohshrieh village, East Jaintia Hills.
While pushing the vehicle, they were hit by the moving truck from behind killing six of them and injuring nine others.
All the injured have been referred to Shillong for treatment .The bodies have been shifted to Khliehriat for post mortem. The deceased and the injured are from West Jaintia Hills.
They were returning from Semasi village, East Jaintia Hills and had gone there for paddy cultivation.
After the vehicle in which they were returning, ran out of fuel, the villagers had to push it.
The driver of the truck identified as Pyntngen Wanniang was arrested.
