Shillong, March 13: The state government will meet the army authorities to ensure that the commuters from Happy Valley to Mawshbuit village are not harassed.
The villagers have to pass through the gate at the 600 meter area which belongs to Gorkha Training Centre (GTC), Happy Valley.
During the question hour, Nongthymmai MLA Charles Pyngrope (TMC) apprised the government that as the Army had put up the gate on the middle of the road, the government should ask the concerned authorites to remove the gate as people are harrassed and the main road should be free of hurdles.
“People going from Happy Valley to Mawshbuit are harrassed. I suggest that the gate be removed as it is in the middle of the road and not at the entrance or at the end . There should be a high level meeting. Gates can’t be set up on public road. I remember that Shillong city bus used to travel through the area ..suddenly the gate came up in 1977.
According to Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD( Roads) Prestone Tynsong since 1972 it is treated as defence land.
In reply to supplementary questions by Heavingstone Kharpran and Ardent Basaiawmoit( both VPP), Tynsong said the state goverment is exploring a bypass from Mawlyngot to Mawshbuit to avoid entering the defence land by the commuters.
