Sanmer (Upper Shillong), Nov 6: The inaugural edition of the 1st MLA Trophy Deuce Ball Tournament, organised by the Sanmer Cricket Academy, started on Thursday with a vibrant opening ceremony at the Sanmer Cricket Ground.
This marks the first-ever Deuce Ball Tournament in Sanmer, bringing together the top teams from the East Khasi Hills District affiliated with the Shillong Cricket Association (SCA).
The event represents a significant milestone for the Sanmer Cricket Academy, which turned its long-standing dream of hosting a Deuce Ball Tournament into reality in under two months — made possible through the dedicated support of its members.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 1st MLA Cricket Tournament, MLA of Mylliem Constituency, Ronnie V Lyngdoh, said, “The Indian women’s cricket team have just won the World Cup. We expect players in this tournament to emulate their performance and to move forward in their performance.”
He urged the cricketers to take the sport seriously and aim to represent India one day.
Lyngdoh added, “Through sports, we can bring about camaraderie, unity, and friendship. Play the game in good spirits. The matches should unite all of us. Also, sports can keep us healthy and away from harmful substances.”
There will be 25 participating teams from Shillong Cricket clubs — in this pathbreaking tournament.
