Condoling his death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on social media, “Pained by the passing of former Union Minister Shri Mukul Roy Ji. He will be remembered for his political experience and efforts to serve society. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti.”

West Bengal Chief Minister said she had a long political acquaintance with Roy, and the news has deeply saddened her.

Roy was one of the crucial leaders in the formation of the TMC and had always been a dedicated party worker. However, in 2017, he quit the party and from the Rajya Sabha MP post. He also resigned from the party’s primary membership after a fallout with the party chief.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Mukul Roy. His departure marks the end of a long and eventful chapter in Bengal’s political journey. Over decades of public life, he witnessed and participated in significant phases of our state’s democratic evolution. His organisational acumen and political engagement left an imprint on many who worked alongside him. Our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and well-wishers. May they find strength and solace in this hour of grief. May his soul rest in peace,” the All India Trinamool Congress wrote on its X handle.
