Govt wants Khasi-Garo to be taught in CBSE schools

Shillong, April 22: The education department wanted Khasi and Garo to be taught in the CBSE affiliated schools.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has written to the Union Education Minister and the CBSE for inclusion of Khasi and Garo in the Central Board of School Education (CBSE)’s scheme of languages.

He said the students in Meghalaya will be at a disadvantage stage under the board’s new three-language policy from 2026–27.
New pension scheme
Rymbui defended the Meghalaya Non-Government Schools and Colleges Employees Centralised Fund Scheme, 2026 as it will streamline a long-pending legacy issue.
The minister said, “The intention of the government is to always see that whatever the legacy issues… we have to streamline…,” Rymbui said.
