Warnings given on armed group’s movement, says local MLA Mukul Sangma

Shillong, Aug 30: Songsak MLA and Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma said that inputs on the movement of groups aimed at reviving militancy were frequently shared, which should have been regularly followed up by the government.

When contacted on the phone about the exchange of fire between the armed group and the police, resulting in the death of four from the group, Sangma said this indicates his frequent warnings.

‘I had taken up the movement of groups in Garo Hills aimed at reviving insurgency,  which we controlled effectively in the past. The matter was raised by me in the meeting of the security commission, which was acknowledged by the DGP when journalists sought her opinion. The issue was also raised in the Assembly and before the media by me “, Sangma said.
According to Sangma, those who were killed can’t be just termed as a mere inter-state gang, and the angle of revival of militancy should be looked into.
