Bar associations to meet on Oct 5

Shillong, Oct 4: The High Court of Meghalaya has notified adherence to attendance in court after its functioning was affected due to strike by lawyers recently.

In the notification on October 1, the court said, “It is hereby notified for the information of all concerned that cases listed before the Division Benches and Single Benches on Monday, the 05th October, 2026, and on subsequent dates will be taken up. All advocates/parties concerned are requested to ensure their appearance in the cases listed, failing which such cases may be dismissed for non-prosecution or taken up and decided on merits, as the court may deem appropriate”.

However, a notice issued on October 2 by the High Court of Meghalaya Bar Association and the Shillong Bar Association, wanted all the members to attend a meeting on Monday ( October 5).

NOTICE

Dated: 02.10.2026

Subject: Deferral of Rally/Peach March on 5th October 2026 and convening of General Body Meeting of members of High Court of Meghalaya Bar Association and Shillong Bar Association.

Dear members,

We are to inform you that, in view of the scheduled visit of the Union Home Minister, Shri. Amit Shah, to Shillong on the 4th and 5th of October 2026, and the resultant security and administrative arrangements, the District Administration has denied permission to hold the rally/peace march previously proposed for 5th October 2026 vide resolution dated 30th September 2026 of the Joint Bar Associations.

In light of this development, therefore:-

1. The rally/peace march previously proposed for 5th October 2026 has been deferred and a fresh date for the same, shall be notified in due course, as and when permission is sanctioned by the District Administration.

2. Notwithstanding the deferral of the rally, a General Body Meeting of members of High Court of Meghalaya Bar Association and Shillong Bar Association shall be convened at the premises of the High Court of Meghalaya Bar Association at 11:30 Α.Μ. on 5th of October 2026 to deliberate on the notice dated 01.10.2026 issued by the Joint Registrar (Listing), High Court of Meghalaya and other matters relating the agitation.

3. It is further informed that the aforesaid resolution dated 30th September 2026 has not been withdrawn, pending discussion and resolution by the General Body of the Bar Associations.

4. All members are requested to make it convenient to attend the said meeting without fail.
