Another body recovered from EJH coal mine

Shillong, June 24: The navy team helping in the search operation at the coal mine in East Jaintia Hills detected one more body on Thursday and retrieved it from the main shaft.

The executive magistrate conducted inquest at the site and the body, the second one to be recovered, was sent to Khliehriat morgue for postmortem.

Relatives of the mine accident victims from Cachar, Barpeta and Kamrup (Rural), Assam and Kailashahar and North Tripura District have been informed through their respective superintendents of police about the recovery of the body and for its identification.

Before the navy team started its operation on Thursday, the NDRF and SDRF teams verified the level of water in the mine and found that it rose by 29 ft.

During the dewatering process, about 5.6 lakh l of water was pumped out from shaft no. 1 and about 12.15 lakh l from the second shaft. The process is still on.

No one came forward to identify the body till the filing of this report.
