Anurag Thakur appointed as new Sports Minister

New Delhi, Jul 7 (UNI) Former BCCI president Anurag Thakur was on Wednesday appointed as the new Union Sports Minister.

The 46-year-old, who was also given charge of Information and Broadcasting ministry along with sports, replaces Kiren Rijiju.

After taking oath as the union cabinet minister Anurag tweeted, “I am honoured to serve the people of India as a Union Cabinet Minister and take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to Prime Minister narendramodi ji for entrusting me with this responsibility.”

He was earlier Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs and has been promoted during the Cabinet Expansion.

Anurag was the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) between May 2016 and February 2017. He has also served as president of Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association.

Thakur has won from his constituency Hamirpur (HP) four times in succession.
