Assam Bengali youth body demands justice in Jan 20 attack on non-tribals

Shillong, Jan 26: An Assam-based youth group has condemned the attack on non-tribal residents of Meghalaya in on January 20.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Bangali Chhatra Yuva Samaj (Bengali Youth Organisation) said one of the victims, Chandan Paul, “is in a critical condition”.

The organisation’s central secretary, Tapamoy Biswas, said attacks on the Bengali community have been going on since 1979 but none of the perpetrators was punished till date. “If one notices carefully the pattern of the attacks, then one can understand that these took place with the help of the government… we demand that the state government must take appropriate steps to stop this violence and punish the miscreants who attacked the non-tribals on January 20,” he added.
