Bells to chime for 5 minutes this Sunday before Covid prayers

Saturday tally: 613 new cases, 7 deaths & 890 recoveries

Shillong, May 28: Bells will chime for five minutes ahead of the mass prayer scheduled for Sunday 12 noon for the Covid patients.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said ringing of bells in  different worship places will be allowed for five minutes at 11.55 am before the prayer meeting at 12 noon on May 29.

Earlier, the health minister, AL Hek had announced  holding of special prayer on Sunday with all faiths and individuals in their respective places for the speedy recovery of Covid patients  and for the safety of the citizens of the state. The prayers is also for the eternal rest of those who have passed away due to Covid

Tynong has appealed to all religious organisations to participate in the special prayer.

“I would like to request different faiths and denominations to participate in the special prayer because the Almighty God is the only one who can really save our precious souls,” Tynsong told reporters on Friday.

New cases

The state reported 613 new cases, 7 deaths and 890 recoveries in the last 24 hours. While five people died in East Khasi Hills, R Bhoi and South West Garo Hills reported one each.

As many as 551 people died of Covid till date and the total active cases are 7741.
