Cabinet nod to upgradation of schools, more seats

Shillong, May 1: Cabinet has approved the proposed upgradation of Secondary Schools to Higher Secondary Schools and addition of new streams in Higher Secondary Schools.
Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting on Thursday, Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh said that the state currently has 51,067 Class XI seats, mostly concentrated in urban areas and the Khasi-Jaintia Hills, leaving a shortfall of 12,000 seats. To bridge this gap, the Cabinet has approved upgrading 6 Government Secondary Schools to Higher Secondary, adding 9,000 seats, and introducing new streams in 11 Government Higher Secondary Schools.
