CBI to quiz Mondal over cattle trade
Kolkata, Aug 12 (UNI): Arrested Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal was brought here, hours after a special court at Asansol ordered a 10-day CBI custody of the strongman of West Bengal’s Birbhum district over allegations of illegal cattle trade, official sources said on Friday.
The sources said CBI officials would question him regarding his role in the booming cattle trade and amassing of assets, both movable and immovable.
Mondal has been also accused of coal smuggling and post-election violence in West Bengal, which too are being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
All the cases are under the scanner of the Calcutta High Court.
Mondal, 62, the Birbhum district President of Trinamool, wielded huge power and influence in the districts of south Bengal. He was picked up from his Nichupatty house around 10 am on Thursday after he skipped the 10th CBI summon for alleged involvement in cross-border trade of cattle, the sources said.
