Though the polling personnel were replaced with new team following the confusion, Bir is yet to cast his vote though the East Khasi Hills election officer assured him that he will be allowed to cast a tender vote.

A tender vote is cast in ballot paper. This vote will be a deciding factor when there is a tie or margin is slim.

Bir, who stays at Lower Nongrim Hills near the  petrol pump, is a carpenter by profession.

“I left by job and came to the polling station thinking that I can resume work after casting vote but now I am still waiting, Bir said before leaving for Laitumkrah police station where the officer in-charge wanted to record his statement.

Local headman Bantylli Nari said when the polling officer read out the name, the voter Brij cast his vote and prior to that it was also not objected by the polling agents.

The headman waited for Brij to cast his ‘real’ vote but he did not turn up again.
