DGP moves HC to quash FIR against him; CID takes over case

Shillong, May 14: DGP LR Bishnoi has moved the High Court of Meghalaya to quash the FIR filed by suspended police officer GK Iangrai against the former for allegedly changing the number plate of his official vehicle.

An official source said on Tuesday that before any preliminary inquiry, the FIR was acted upon by the police and hence the petition was moved.  On the basis of the FIR, a case was registered under sections 409/467/471/120 B IPC read with section 792 of M V Act at Sadar Police station.

In the petition, the DGP said he had entrusted the matter to be probed by the CID which is not under him.

The stand of the petitioner is that the FIR was lodged by a suspended  police officer who faced action during the petitioner’s tenure as DGP. Moreover, the FIR reflects that Iangrai is not a victim and the FIR was lodged upon vengeance and grudge by him and sections  levelled are not attracted against the petitioner.

The DGP maintained that the FIR is not  maintainable and is liable to be set aside and quashed.
