DGP’s leave nothing to do with law & order issue: CM

Shillong, Sept 13: Chief Minister Conrad  Sangma on Monday said the leave application of  Director General of Police (DGP), R. Chandranathan has nothing to do with the current law and order situation.

Earlier, speculation was rife that the DGP had applied for leave in the context of the current law and order issues after the former HNLC leader Cherishstarfield Thangkhiew was killed on August 13.

“The leave application has nothing to do with the current situation and people can question in many ways. If an individual desires to go for a leave, it could be for health ground, for personal ground and if as a government employee he is entitled to it, he should be given”, he said.

Stating that there is no confusion in this regard, the chief minister said the DGP had applied for leave and he had met him regarding the leave.

The Sur Ki Nong Mawlai (Voice of Mawlai People), a conglomeration of 11 organisations, had demanded the suspension of Chandranathan, and two other officers for the August 13 incident.

The chief minister said the entire application and process takes time and a system is followed.

“So the process is going on. As soon as the process is over, his leave as per his desire will be given,” Sangma said.

To a question, the chief minister said the process of the judicial inquiry is on.
