Federation of Khasi States to meet CM on annexed agreement
Shillong, Feb 20: The Federation of Khasi States (FKS) wanted a meeting with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for a discussion on Annexed Agreement of the Instrument of Accession signed on August 17, 1948.
In a statement issued on Sunday, FKS adviser & spokesperson John F Kharshiing said that the meeting is to follow up on the chief minister’s statement on October 11, 2021 expressing his willingness to discuss issues arising out of the Annexed Agreement of the Instrument of Accession, if such issues are discussed within the parameters of the Constitution of India.
Kharshiing said the Federation of Khasi States has been taking up with the Centre and the state that the constitutional description of the Khasi States within Assam in the First Schedule of the Constitution of India is a serious anomaly which is to be righted.
“The Federation of Khasi States has sought appointment with the Chief Minister to discuss this anomaly of describing the Khasi States within the First Schedule which has relevance to the present ongoing discussions on boundary settlement between Meghalaya and Assam,” Kharshiing said.
