Former Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharya in hospital

Kolkata, May 25 (UNI): Former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya was admitted to a city hospital on Tuesday after his health suddenly deteriorated due to a suspected chest infection.

The 77-year-old Marxist veteran was reportedly taken to Woodlands Hospital in the city after his oxygen level dropped to below 90.

According to sources, the condition of former West Bengal chief minister Bhattacharya deteriorated after his oxygen level dropped considerably and was having chest infection.

According to the sources, the medics of the private hospital at Alipore have suggested to keep the septuagenarian into the ICU for observation.

Bhattacharya, who is suffering from corona, has been undergoing treatment at home for the last few days. According to sources, the former chief minister has COPD problems.

On Monday, Suchetna, the daughter of the former chief minister, said her father’s physical condition had improved. But since last night’s sudden deterioration in his physical condition, the doctors did not take the risk of treating him at home.

Bhattacharya and his wife Meera contracted corona a few days ago.

Meera was admitted to a private hospital in South Kolkata due to respiratory problems.
