Shillong, June 24: East Khasi Hills district administration has followed up the order of the High Court of Meghalaya and said for roadside hawkers and street vendors, an ID or badge in lieu of signs of ‘vaccinated or not vaccinated’ is required.
In this regard, the DC’s office will issue separate instructions to the Shillong Municipal Board, Town Vending Committees, Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Incidents Commanders, BDOs and Market Committees/CCMTs for immediate compliance.
The district magistrate, Isawanda Laloo has also asked all shops, establishments and commercial vehicles to display clearly “vaccinated” or “not vaccinated” signs to allow people to make conscious decisions before using their services.
“Any instance of false information furnished regarding vaccination status will be dealt with as per law”, the deputy commissioner said.
Regarding the recent guidelines issued by the health department, the deputy commissioner said it is mandatory that all employees and staff of shops/establishments and drivers, conductors and helpers of local taxis auto-rickshaws, maxi cabs and buses who choose not to get vaccinated should get themselves tested once in every ten days so as to exercise social responsibility and contribute to the safety of the society by ensuring this safety measure.
