HC warns Tripura home secy of penalty for delay in job offering

Agartala, July 8 (UNI): The High Court of Tripura took an exception to the home secretary of the state for wilfully ignoring the court orders regarding job offer to the son of a police constable under die-in-harness scheme and warned to impose a penalty.

The division bench of the high court, comprising Chief Justice Akil Kureshi and Justice Arindam Lodh, was not happy even after government advocate assured the court that the job will be offered to the candidate within the closing hour of the day, as home secretary Sharadindu Choudhury ignored the job petition of the aspirant thrice.

According to report, Shubham Das had filed a job petition under the die-in-harness scheme after the death of his father Nantu Kumar Das, a police constable who died on June 6, 2001. More than 20 years later, the petitioner has still been looking for government employment under the established scheme.

The government advocate during the hearing of the case apprised the court that the order of appointment of the petitioner would be passed yesterday itself but couldn’t satisfy the court with the reasons for such delay. The court said, “We are not inclined to close this contempt petition because the facts present an extremely disturbing sequence of events. We are considering imposing heavy costs on the respondents for disregarding the Court’s orders on multiple occasions”.

Following repeated contempt of the court order, the bench had asked the additional secretary, home department on June 23 last to remain present before the Court through virtual mode, if no reply is filed on July 7. Filing the reply yesterday, the government advocate submitted to the court that the department is all set to issue the order to appoint Shubham on the day.
