Shillong, March 24: Various suggestions have emerged on Friday in the Assembly during the question hour to ensure the safety of Umiam bridge .
VPP MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit raised the question on the Umiam bridge and the dam.

Other legislators suggested the need to reduce the load limit, installing CCTV cameras and disaster management involving traditional institutions.
The life span of Umiam dam was also discussed in the Assembly.
In reply, Transport minister AT Mondal said the suggestions of the members will be examined.
He said the government is looking at alternative route so that the bridge is not affected.
He said retrofitting and repair works were carried out after the life span of the dam expired as per the safety audit.
